Integrated Solutions for Impellers and Bladed Disks

In the machining of high-end components such as aero‑engines, gas turbines, and compressors, impellers and bladed disks—key power‑transmission elements—demand exceptionally tight dimensional accuracy, precise blade‑profile conformity, superior surface finish, and consistent process performance. Conventional machining methods, when applied to difficult-to-cut materials like superalloys, titanium alloys, and precipitation‑hardening stainless steels, often suffer from rapid tool wear, pronounced chatter marks, poor chip evacuation, and significant variations in contour accuracy, making it challenging to meet mass‑production standards. Drawing on years of R&D in impeller and bladed‑disk tooling and extensive field‑process expertise, Arno has introduced a comprehensive, full‑process precision‑machining solution for these critical parts. Featuring dedicated tools tailored to every stage—including internal and external cylindrical turning, roughing of blade‑shaped flow passages, and finishing operations—this solution ensures efficient, stable, and highly accurate machining of impeller and bladed‑disk components.

Dedicated turning inserts for high-temperature alloys and titanium alloys

It is used for machining the upper and lower end faces of wheel hubs (process datum faces), the inner bore and internal profile of the hub, as well as the outer diameter and rotary surfaces of the hub. Featuring a robust groove geometry, its cutting edge balances sharpness with exceptional strength.

Milling inserts for high-temperature alloys and titanium alloys

Designed for roughing operations, it efficiently removes large material allowances from the inter‑blade passages of large‑diameter impellers and bladed disks. Featuring a robust cutting edge and a specially engineered flute geometry, it delivers a metal removal rate far superior to that of solid carbide end mills. The inserts are replaceable, reducing per‑part tooling costs, while the cutting edge offers excellent impact resistance and can withstand the high temperatures generated during machining of superalloys.

Custom non-standard solid carbide roughing end mill with wave-shaped cutting edges and small‑toothed tapered ball‑nose design

Designed for roughing operations in medium- and small‑diameter channels, it features a fine‑grain WC‑Co carbide substrate. Key characteristics include wave‑shaped cutting edges and small, segmented teeth that promote chip evacuation and reduce vibration, thereby altering chip‑breaking behavior, lowering cutting forces, suppressing chatter, and protecting thin‑walled blades—balancing efficient chip removal with excellent rigidity.

Custom non-standard solid carbide round-nose end mill

Designed for semi‑rough machining of medium and small‑diameter flutes, it features an unequal‑pitch indexing and an unequal‑helix geometry to suppress machining vibrations, while the rounded nose edge effectively reduces stress.

Custom non-standard solid carbide tapered ball-end mill

Designed for semi‑finishing and finishing of blade‑shaped surfaces, it provides a uniform finish‑machining allowance (0.08–0.15 mm per side), corrects deformation caused by roughing, and ensures stable contour accuracy. Featuring an ultra‑fine‑grain WC‑Co carbide substrate, a specialized coating, and edge‑chamfering treatment, it reduces the coefficient of friction, minimizes tool wear and workpiece distortion, and incorporates a highly rigid tool structure to suppress cutting vibrations and prevent chatter marks on thin‑walled blades.

Custom non-standard solid carbide 3D ball-end mill

Designed for precision spherical‑head R‑shaping and the removal of excess material in narrow flow passages, featuring a long tapered shank and a small diameter. The slender taper design effectively eliminates tool‑axis interference in five‑axis machining; unequal helix angles provide vibration damping, significantly reducing chatter marks on thin‑walled blades. High contour accuracy of the spherical tip ensures superior surface quality on the blade’s curved surfaces and at the leading and trailing edges. The cutting edge exhibits excellent wear resistance, ensuring consistent performance across multiple parts while controlling form‑and‑surface‑roughness tolerances.

Solid carbide internal-coolant twist drill

Designed for machining end-face mounting holes and cooling holes in impellers and bladed disks, this tool features an optimized drill tip and chip‑breaking geometry, with a slightly dulled cutting edge. It delivers high‑efficiency drilling, excellent chip evacuation, and effective suppression of work‑hardening, while ensuring hole‑location accuracy. A custom extended shank is available to avoid blade interference.
